I have no scientific evidence to back up my claim. But from my observations, I think stamp collecting may keep you young. Maybe it’s the Fountain of Youth that Ponce de Leon was searching for.

I recently spoke on the phone to a customer who said he was 88 years young. His voice was strong. I have other customers who are well into their seventies and eighties and going strong both physically and mentally.

I turned 50 in April 2015. I feel lucky in that my health is good in general. Yes, my doctor would like to get my blood pressure lower (without medication). He would like to keep my blood sugar levels lower too. I could lose a few pounds. Overall, I feel good though.

I like to think that part of the reason is that I stay busy with stamps – both as a collector and as a dealer. It especially keeps my mind active. I’ve seen too many cases where people grow older, retire, and have no hobby to keep them busy. They grow increasingly frail and sedentary until they pass away.

I like to think that stamps can help keep you young and keep your mind sharp.
